Busy, back soon

OK, so the old fart is going on holiday. That means no more blogs until about the middle of June. I do understand what a frustration this will be to my adoring public but you will just have to cope somehow. How you will manage without my take on the many crazy things that surround [...]

A sense of balance

So the MPs expenses farce continues to take its toll of scalps as the full scale of the greed and cynical exploitation of the system is exposed. Good on the Daily Telegraph for providing this public service and shame on the speaker for trying to cover it all up.
The impact on upcoming elections has yet [...]

What a squeal

You won’t believe it! - the Health and Safety Executive strikes again. Now farmers have been advised to wear ear defenders when feeding the pigs to avoid getting their hearing being damaged by the squealing. You think I am making this up don’t you, but its true.
What would we do without the nanny state? Just [...]

Save the goats!

Its official - wind farms are killing Taiwanese goats. It must be true because it is on the BBC news website. A farmer on an outlying island in Taiwan where giant wind turbines have been installed has lost over 400 goats. The farmer says they just cannot cope with the noise and disturbance.

Stormy weather

So where is it then? The weather men promised us a ‘barbecue summer’. Well I’ve just been out there and I am clear that it is not the weather for barbecues. There’s a force 10 blowing and the wisteria and tree peony are hanging on for grim death.
Anyway its good to know our Prime Minister [...]

Shame on you

The Sunday papers are full of the never ending greed of our MPs again - claiming as expenses everything from mortgage payments that did not exist to Christmas decorations. And ordinary people in the UK are absolutely furious about it - irrespective of political belief or party politics. There is simply a great groundswell of indignation [...]

Give us choices

Apparently the Royal College of Nurses is to consider giving detailed guidance for the first time to nurses on how to help terminally ill patients end their lives. Surveys have shown that a staggering 85% of the public would like the option to take steps to end their own life or allow others to do [...]

Drink up

Now MPs have got it wrong again - but in a quite different way. The Business & Enterprise Select Committee thinks there should be an enquiry into pubs that are tied houses to the brewers and how this is forcing up the price of beer - compared to the supermarket that is.
What they don’t seem [...]
