Well we have had climate change for the last two days. It has been sunny and we have been out in the garden trying to knock it into shape. Given that we have some 3/4 acres of formal garden it is something of a challenge but we are getting there. We have spent a lot of time trimming back shrubberies and compensating for the neglect of years. It is good to see the garden coming alive again - loads of snowdrops and aconites with daffodils on the way. There is still a lot to do and the gardener was wealding his chain saw today and I was attacking a massive bramble patch.
Mrs Oldfart has been in the greenhouse planting out her plug plants and sowing seeds so hopefully we will be able to add some colour to the garden. Last week we went to a plant auction which was a great way of buying cheap shrubs and plants - came back with a bunch of rhododendrons which were great value. Can’t stop - off to snip some more.
Darling,
Just be careful with the chain saw action and also what you are snipping……we don’t wany any nasty accidents.
Good to see you’ve got a spring in your step now, after all the grim winter bloggs. Maybe you could plant a rhododendron for me!

Dear Fawlty Towers,
I share your fed-upness with the weather - clearly global cooling! Have just returned from two weeks in South Africa where the temperature one day was 47 degrees C (117 degrees F) - they think it’s global warming. We were staying with my brother in Barrydale where they haven’t had rain for six months! What do you know - it rained while we were there (well only 1 cm) but welcome all the same.
Have been picking grapes and treading them with my feet - a good vintage this year - Chateau de Verruca. Can recommend riding on an ostrich - just like a Toyota, no brakes.
Roll on summer.

the warmish weather has brought evidently a new wrinkle to your House of Commons we hear. Seems as if there is a gathering of the rodents and they don’t know how to get rid of them. Talk is they suggested bringing in cats… Rats in the House…we’ve had them for years…ours mostly are two legged and cunning as mice…yours we hear have 4….they’ve obviously come from your garden so your success is making news here and the remedy seems to keep running them easterly…well, if they want, we can send the jackasses that seem to be cluttering our congress over …I don’t know if they’ll help with the rats but one of us would have a good clean out. Regards and happy spring
